Adoption of updated Dog Ordinance

WHITINGHAM ADOPTION OF

DOG ORDINANCE

 

At their meeting on January 24, 2024, the Whitingham Selectboard adopted an updated civil Dog Ordinance to become effective on March 24, 2024.

The new ordinance is available for review below or by hard copy available at the Town Clerk’s office.  This updated Ordinance removes sections and fines related to disturbances and defecation; it adds a few definitions; and it clarifies that the ordinance is only to regulate dogs, not other domestic animals.

Citizens of the Town of Whitingham have the right to petition for a vote on the question of disapproving this ordinance per Title 24 V.S.A. § 1973.

Unless a petition is filed by March 8, 2024, in accordance with Title 24 V.S.A. § 1973 (signed by not less than five percent of the qualified voters), the updated Whitingham Dog Ordinance shall become effective on March 24, 2024.
